A friend of mine just emailed to let me know Ms. Ryder had passed away. I've been searching google all morning trying to get some information, so I truly appreciate your post. I'm now a graduate student far away in Hawai'i, but I've kept in touch with Marcia all these years. She was so wonderful to me when I was in high school, and truly believed that I would be successful in anything I wanted to do. She's always lived in my mind as a symbol of pursuing your passion in such a way that it benefits the world.
Thank you for putting this up. I have known and loved Marcia since we went to high school together. We had the same inspiring art teacher, Mrs. Sewell, who sent us on to life-long careers in the arts. Marcia has always been and continues to be an inspiration to me and I will miss her. We have been out of touch these last years and I happened across the notice of her passing. It was like getting hit with... I don't know, something big and hard. Some will go before we have a chance to say goodbye. Our sight into the future is faulty. Marcia wouldn't blame you for choosing something else that day. But I understand. I wish I had the chance to say goodbye, and I love you, too.

A beautiful soul.
She will be missed.
Nicely said, Charlie. I never knew her, but it sound to me like a life well-lived.
