Xmas 2008: scamland

Photo: Somewhere in America

markdowns on markdowns
but nobody's buying
laid off her job
her children are crying
old people freezing
homeless are starving
tuna for turkey
nobody's carving
families on food stamps
while bankers run free
in the land of the scammers
and the smug bourgeoisie
where there's only one question
what's in it for me
so this is America
the U.S. of Fraud
hounded by hucksters
suckered by god
lost in the flim-flam
a people in need
in the home of the knave
and the landfill of greed

Yes lovely, full of hope and optimism. People are shit and religion sucks and no one ever helps anyone else and lets all kill ourselves. I think I'll try something else.

and what will you try?

Marx believed that value was an intrinsic good bestowed upon the raw material through the work of the worker.

Capitalist theory holds that something is worth whatever the market values it.

What is the market value of America?

Anonymously as Tom Cool, who can't afford his pants.

Maybe this (I picked up from an old post)

SOMETIMES by Sheenagh Pugh

Sometimes things don't go, after all,
from bad to worse.
Some years, muscadel
faces down frost; green thrives; the crops don't fail,
sometimes a man aims high, and all goes well.
A people sometimes will step back from war;
elect an honest man; decide they care
enough, that they can't leave some stranger poor.
Some men become what they were born for.
Sometimes our best efforts do not go
amiss; sometimes we do as we meant to.
The sun will sometimes melt a field of sorrow
that seemed hard frozen; may it happen for you.

it's all just entertainment beyond the walls of my house... and my little community of folks trying to see eye to eye and raise their kids.

beyond that, if it pisses you off or stresses you out or leaves you feeling blue, turn it off. just turn it off. leave it to beaver's on TV, tom petty's on cd, i got apps on my ipod, and the call of the wild in paperback.

hug your daughter, hug your mama, hug your grandson, hug your papa.
